AMHHR News & Updates
On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the Advocacy for Mental Health and Human Rights – Sierra Leone (AMHHR-SL), in collaboration with the Students’ Union Government of Njala University, Njala Campus (SUG NUNC), successfully conducted a “Zero Plastic Campaign” clean-up exercise across Njala University.
The initiative brought together students, staff, and key stakeholders to promote environmental sanitation and highlight the strong connection between a clean environment and improved mental health. Major campus areas were covered, resulting in a significant reduction in plastic waste.
The exercise recorded strong participation from university leadership, AMHHR-SL coordinators, ambassadors, and students. The event was also covered by an AYV reporter, who conducted interviews and documented the exercise, helping to amplify the campaign’s message and impact.
Organizers praised the unity, commitment, and collective effort demonstrated throughout the campaign, while extending special appreciation to the CEO and Founder of AMHHR-SL, Mummy Kona Seibure, for her continuous support.
The Zero Plastic Campaign stands as a model for sustainable environmental action and demonstrates the importance of collective responsibility in creating cleaner and healthier learning environments.
The organizers also called for the expansion of similar initiatives across other institutions in Sierra Leone, encouraging students and communities to take active responsibility for environmental protection and mental wellbeing.
